Chamba Valley is known for its rich and ancient culture.As we know that more then 1000 years has been passed when chamba kingdom was established so the culture of chamba is not rich but a deep ancient also so to know about chamba culture is itself a talk of pride. Chamba culture is basically known as Gaddsi culture.The living way of chamba's peoples are very nearly related to the nature.

¤ LANGUAGE OF CHAMBA
CHAMBA vallley speaks the Chambyali language. The name of chambyali based on the name of chamab like chamba people and chambyali language. There is also a language that speaks in chamba is GADDSI LANGUAGE but this language speaks in the upper chamab,s people.

The geographic isolation of Chamba has allowed its people to evolve their own unique tradition of handicrafts. The mind-boggling range includes fantastic woodwork, traditional  embroidery on chamba rumaal, traditional woollen shawls and lots of other things like chamba chappel and chamba embroidery in the dress of chamba lady,s is very rich.

Fairs & Festivals in Chamba


¤ Minjar Fair

One of the most important tradition and fairs of Chamab, the Minjar is celebrated for seven-day  continuously and it held in July-August. As we know that much of rural India is still largely dependent on the rains for watering their fields. So much so that rain is looked like a god in India.
 In Chamba The festival of Minjar is a kind of a thanksgiving ceremony to the god of rain and a prayer for good harvest.
Minjar has been announced as a International festival of india.

¤ Sui Mela

It is celebrated for 15 days in the month of(March-April),that is called chatter this fair is celebrated in the memory of Rani Sui Mata, a beloved deity of the region. The sui Mata Commit a willful sacrifice of her life for the people of chamab.See Sui Mata Temple for the full story of Sui. Women gather to sing, dance and worship the Devi during this festival. This festival is basically women,s festival and – men are strictly prohibited from participating in the mela. Gaddi women specially from Bharmaur and otther villages participate in the fair and sing songs that is called gurahyi and danse upon these songs.

¤ Lishoo

Baisakhi is known as Lishoo in the Chamba and Pangi region. . In Shimla it is called Bissu. Lishoo is celebrated in chamba in April Month(BASAO MONTH).
